In New York, three police officers were injured in an attack by a man with a machete
Three police officers in the American city of New York were injured on New Year’s Eve in an attack by a young man with a machete near Times Square, police said.
“An unprovoked 19-year-old walked up to a police officer and tried to stab him in the head with a machete. The man then struck two other police officers in the head with a machete,” Police Commissioner Keachant Sewell said in a briefing that was streamed on NYPD Twitter.
According to the police commissioner, one of the officers shot the attacker, hitting him in the shoulder. The suspect is in custody.
