New York Attorney’s Office opens investigation of Congressman Santos who lied about his biography

The New York attorney’s office has opened an investigation of Congressman-elect George Santos, who admitted to lying about his background, education and employment history, Fox News Channel reports.

“The people of Nassau County … deserve to have an honest and responsible representative in Congress. No one is above the law, and if a crime has been committed in this county, we will deal with it,” the network quoted Ann Donnelly, chief prosecutor of Nassau County, part of New York City.

She called the numerous “fabrications and inconsistencies” in Santos’ biography “stunning.”

After a New York Times exposé, the Republican congressman-elect admitted to giving voters false information about himself, including that he had a college degree and that his mother was Jewish and her parents had fled Europe during World War II. It was also untrue that Santos had worked at Goldman Sachs and Citigroup investment banks.
